Living in Harmony
A three-to-five day public seminar series for joyful living and healthier relationships.
The problem
Why this work exists
Households under financial and social strain rarely have anywhere to take the strain itself. Conflict at home, stress carried in from work, and the distance that opens up between generations are treated as private matters โ until they are not, and by then the family is dealing with a crisis rather than a difficulty.
Counselling is unaffordable for most of the families we work with, and unfamiliar enough that few would seek it out. What is missing is not treatment. It is somewhere ordinary to learn what to do.
Our approach
4Care’s approach
A seminar series, run over three to five days in community halls and schools, in the local language and free to attend. Participants take part in sessions designed to foster happiness and nurture healthier relationships.
Our speakers work through practical strategies for everyday life: handling conflict within a family, managing stress without carrying it home, and the small habits that hold a household together. The emphasis throughout is on what people can actually do on the Monday after, not on theory.
Who we support
The people this reaches
Anyone in the communities we work in. There is no referral, no fee and no requirement to explain why you have come โ the sessions are held in places people already go to, at times that fit around work.
In practice most participants are adults holding a household together on an uncertain income, and increasingly the older relatives living with them.
Activities
What actually happens
-
Emotional wellbeing sessions
Recognising strain early, and knowing when and where to ask for help.
-
Relationships within the family
Including between generations, which is where most of the friction we see actually sits.
-
Coping with financial and social stress
Practical habits for the weeks when there is not enough to go round.
Put a seminar into another community
The sessions are free to attend because somebody else pays for them. That is the whole of the funding model.
The rest of our work
Three programmes run year-round, alongside the campaigns that fund specific things.
-
We Care
Social awareness campaigns on the rights and empowerment of women, children and senior citizens.
