Problems to Possibilities
A seminar series helping adolescents turn the problems of their age into possibilities.
The problem
Why this work exists
Adolescence is the point at which academic pressure, money at home and an uncertain future all arrive at once, and it is the point at which a young person is least likely to say so. Most of the ones we meet believe their situation is theirs alone.
What follows is rarely dramatic. It is a year of school given up on, a decision made in isolation, an ambition quietly dropped โ losses nobody records, and which nobody would have had to lose.
Our approach
4Care’s approach
A seminar series designed to empower adolescents to transform challenges into opportunities. Problems to Possibilities gives young people the tools and insights they need to navigate their formative years.
Sessions are led by people close to their own age. Participants learn to recognise their own potential, develop resilience, and treat obstacles as steps rather than dead ends. Much of the value is in hearing that others their age face the same things โ which is also why the sessions are run in groups rather than one to one.
Who we support
The people this reaches
Adolescents dealing with academic pressure, difficult family circumstances, or uncertainty about what comes next. Delivered in schools and community centres, free to attend.
Activities
What actually happens
-
Seminars in schools
Run with the school, in school hours, so attending costs a family nothing.
-
Peer-led group sessions
Led by people close to the participants' own age, which is what makes them speak.
-
Resilience and decision-making
Treating an obstacle as a step: what to do next, and who to talk to first.
Give an adolescent the room to ask
The seminars are free to the young people and their schools. Donations are what keeps them that way.
The rest of our work
Three programmes run year-round, alongside the campaigns that fund specific things.
-
